SEGUIN, Texas — A 39-year-old man is dead following a devastating incident at the Niagara Bottling Factory in Seguin.
On Jan 23, the Seguin Police Department responded to the 1700 block of 8th Street after receiving reports of a major collision at the Niagara Bottling Factory.
Upon arrival, police were told that a man, identified as Arlen Vargas, had been crushed between a tractor-trailer and the building.
Workers told police once they realized Vargas was trapped, they began performing CPR and officers began to help with these efforts as well.
But once EMS arrived, they pronounced Vargas dead on the scene.
The preliminary investigation showed that Vargas was a driver with another company waiting on a shipment. The truck driver involved in the incident said that he was given the green light to to back into the loading dock and when he was instructed to reposition the trailer a bit, he did just that.
Tragically when the Niagara employees open the loading door, they found Vargas pinned in between the trailer and the building. The employees reportedly told the driver to move the vehicle to free Vargas.
No criminal charges expected at this time, but SFD’s Criminal Investigation Division is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
