
A man was sent to the hospital after a hit-and-run on Kitty Hawk Road in Bexar County. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
SAN ANTONIO — A man was found lying in the middle of the street after a hit-and-run accident Thursday night, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said patrol units responded to Kitty Hawk Road and Crestway Road around 8 p.m. for a major crash on the northeast side of the county.
According to a preliminary report, upon arrival, a man was found lying on the street unresponsive. The victim sustained several injuries and was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. It is unclear what lead up to the collision.
Police say the 77-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity has not been released.
Bexar County Sheriff’s Office say they received a call for a missing persons report. The caller was reporting the victim as missing due to him not returning home as expected.
Authorities said the vehicle that struck the man fled the location. A description of the suspect was not provided.
Police say it is unclear whether the victim was struck by another vehicle prior to this incident or if he experienced a medical episode or accident that caused him to collapse in the road. No debris or evidence of a prior collision was observed at the scene by officers.
One vehicle was able to maneuver and avoid running over the man. A second vehicle ran over the man but remained at the scene and provided statements along with the other witnesses.
According to BCSO, both north and south bound lanes of Kitty Hawk will be closed as crews work to clear the scene.
