Police said life-saving measures were performed on the man including the use of Narcan.
SAN ANTONIO — An investigation is underway after a man died while in police custody Thursday night, authorities said.
San Antonio police responded to a call for an assault in progress around 8:30 p.m. on the 5100 block of S. Flores Street.
The caller told police a man was acting erratic and running around a store in his underwear.
Police said witnesses tried to get the man to calm down but were unsuccessful. When an officer arrived he approached the man and struggled with him before promptly placing him in handcuffs.
While the man was detained police said his body went limp and the officer immediately uncuffed the man and attempted life-saving measures including the use of Narcan.
Paramedics arrived and continued life-saving measures but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner identified the man as 45-year-old Amadeo Danis Garcia Deleon. The medical examiner will conduct a death investigation to determine a cause of death.
This is an ongoing investigation.
