Man faces charges after threatening violence at Cibolo apartments, prompting SWAT standoff

Police said SWAT successfully deescalated a standoff with a man armed with an AR-15 style rifle, taking him into custody without incident.

CIBOLO, Texas — Cibolo Police said SWAT was called to an apartment complex where an armed man made threats of violence Saturday afternoon.

Police said officers were dispatched for a mental health call at the Grand at Cibolo apartment complex just after 3:30 p.m. where a suicidal man was reportedly making threats to commit acts of violence and had possibly taken some pills.

According to police, officers arrived at the scene and attempted to make contact with the man inside the apartment but did not receive an answer. Officers observed the man come out on his balcony with an AR-15 style rifle making a sweeping motion toward people in the courtyard, police said, prompting SWAT to be called out.

Police began to set up a perimeter and successfully deescalated the situation through a SWAT negotiator, according to officials. The man, identified by officials as Steven Vore, was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Guadalupe County Jail.

At this time, police said he is facing a charge of Deadly Conduct with more charges possible.

There were no evacuations of residents. No injuries were reported.

This is a developing story.
