Man fires AR-style gun after wife caught him cheating, leading to standoff with SAPD, affidavit states

The victim says Arellano took out his black AR-style gun from the dresser and pointed it at her face before shooting the floor. A standoff with police then ensued.

SAN ANTONIO — An arrest affidavit obtained by KENS 5 revealed that on Feb. 24, San Antonio police officers were involved in a standoff at a south-side apartment complex with a man who sent shots towards his wife after she caught him cheating the day before.

According to SAPD, officers responded to the 4700 block of Stringfellow Drive for a family violence call around 2:48 p.m.

The 20-year-old victim told police that she started packing her belongings to leave while the suspect, identified as Alfredo Arellano Jr., was asleep. When he woke up, she told him she was leaving. That’s when the affidavit alleges Arellano started pushing her and “locked her in the closet.” She said he let her out but wouldn’t let her leave the room for an hour.

The victim said he threw her on the bed and got on top of her, putting two hands around her neck, according to the affidavit. She said she couldn’t breathe for a few seconds.

The victim says Arellano then took out his black AR-style gun from the dresser and pointed it at her face. She said he pointed it at her multiple times, while doing so he told her, “You’re not f****** leaving.”

He then shot the gun into the floor, according to the affidavit.

The victim told police she felt like Arellano was capable of killing her, according to the affidavit.

That’s when police arrived, who said he was making “homicidal and suicidal threats.” He eventually allowed his wife and two children to leave the unit before he “barricaded the front door and refused to turn himself in.”

A standoff then ensued, with police using air support, K-9 units, hostage negotiators and SWAT teams in their effort to take the man into custody. He eventually came out around 8:38 p.m., was taken into custody and booked on two active warrants.

Arellano has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and impeding breathing of a family member.
