Man found floating at SAWS Recycling Facility in September identified

Family members said they had last seen Moody Arteaga on Aug. 24, when he went for a walk on the trail and wasn’t heard from again.

SAN ANTONIO — Bexar County officials identified a man found floating face-down in the water at a recycling facility last month as 37-year-old Moody Arteaga.

They have not, however, determined the manner in which he died.

Arteaga’s body was found by a worker checking the diversion tank at the Leon Creek Water Recycling Facility on the morning of Sept. 7. When he moved the metal panel that covers the tank, he noticed the body floating on the top of the water.

Police said they determined the victim may have been a missing person after checking credit cards in a backpack that was also in the tank. Officials at the time said there were no signs of trauma on the body.

Family members reported last seeing Arteaga on Aug. 24, when they say he went for a walk on a greenway trail.
