SAN ANTONIO — A man suffered life-threatening injuries after authorities say he burned himself while lighting a fire using gasoline.

Authorities were called to a home in the 15900 block of Drexel Run at about 12:30 a.m. Friday morning. That’s where they found the victim in the backyard, who was burned all over his body.

Police is not giving much information about this incident, and KENS 5 will continue to update this article as we learn more.

As we prepare for chilly weather, the Consumer Protection Safety Commission has tips on how to safely start a fire:

You should never use gasoline to start a fire or re-start a fire—even if you think the fire isn’t ignited.

Only use appropriate fire starters before lighting the fire.

After trying to start a fire, don’t add liquid fuel to it.

This can lead to what’s called “flame jetting.” That’s when a sudden flash fire happens when pouring any flammable liquids from a container over an exposed flame or ignition source.

The flame can travel up the liquid and lead to an explosion.

And in case any fire gets out of hand, keep a hose or fire extinguisher nearby.
