A man is in the hospital after allegedly shooting at multiple San Antonio Police Officers late Friday night, February 2. A preliminary report from the SAPD says officers responded to a family disturbance involving a gun at the 100 block of Carranza Street at about 10:30 p.m.
SAPD Chief William McManus said there was an altercation inside the home between a 35-year-old man, a woman believed to be his partner, and her 18-year-old son. “Once the altercation happened, the suspect went and retrieved a weapon, a handgun,” McManus said. “They (the woman and her son) fled the house. There were three children inside the house, still, once they fled.”
McManus said when officers arrived, they attempted to negotiate with the man to come out and drop the gun, but the man stayed near the doorway of the front of the house. At some point during the negotiations, McManus said the man raised the gun, fired a round and the officers on-scene returned fire. The man was hit “multiple times,” according to the preliminary report. He was then sent to a local hospital by EMS, with non-life-threatening injuries.
No officers or bystanders were injured during the shooting, according to officials. McManus said there were five officers involved in the shooting, who all have served more than two years in the SAPD. An investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
