Man killed after being struck by vehicle on Highway 90 on San Antonio’s west side

A man in his 30s was killed after being struck by a vehicle while standing outside his disabled car on U.S. Highway 90 near General McMullen, police said.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was killed in a crash early Monday morning on San Antonio’s west side, according to police and the San Antonio Fire Department.

The incident happened just after 6 a.m. in the 3200 block of U.S. Highway 90 eastbound near General McMullen Drive.

Police say the man, believed to be between 30 and 39 years old, was driving an older vehicle when he began experiencing mechanical problems while crossing the General McMullen bridge. Investigators said he pulled over to the shoulder, which is narrow in that area.

While standing outside his vehicle, the man was partially blocking the far right lane when he was struck by another vehicle traveling eastbound.

The driver who hit him stopped to render aid, but EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police said everyone involved is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been announced.

Crews worked for several hours to investigate the crash and clear the scene. Drivers were urged to use Old Highway 90 as an alternate route and avoid the area when possible.

This remains a developing story, and details may change as the investigation continues.
