Man on dirt bike injured in crash while being followed by off-duty officer in east Harris County, sheriff says

It’s unknown why he was being followed, and the sheriff said he couldn’t confirm what agency the off-duty officer was with.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man on a dirt bike was injured Saturday while being followed by an off-duty officer in east Harris County, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez

The crash happened on E. Wallisville Road at Haney

The details of this incident are limited, but the sheriff said the man on the dirt bike was either being followed or chased by an off-duty officer in a private vehicle. The sheriff said the officer possibly had police lights activated. 

When the man on the dirt bike tried to make a turn, he crashed into a vehicle, the sheriff said. 

Life Flight was called to the scene and took the man to a hospital. 

Initially, the sheriff said the man died but later came back and said that may not be accurate.

“Was initially told he was deceased, but that may not be accurate,” the sheriff posted to social media. “He may still be in surgery. We have three major crash scenes, two of which are Lifeflight transports. Sorry for confusion.”

It’s unknown why the man was being followed, and the sheriff said he couldn’t confirm what agency the off-duty officer was with.
