ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — A man was reportedly seen walking towards a school in Atascosa County carrying a ‘rifle,” sheriff’s office says.
Deputies dispatched to the area were able to determine the man was a custodian with Charlotte ISD and he was carrying a BB gun, which the state does not consider to be a weapon. Officials say that while “a BB gun is not a weapon, carrying one near a school is ill-advised.” Deputies removed the BB gun from campus.
Information about the incident was turned over to Charlotte ISD from ACSO.
“School safety and security continue to be a top priority and deputies will diligently address any safety or security concerns at all ISD campuses in Atascosa County,” said the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office.
