SAN ANTONIO — A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to more than 12 years for trafficking weapons, including to an undercover agent.
Joel Alejandro Martinez, AKA Bo Jackson, was identified by officials as being a “frequent seller of stolen firearms” in online chat groups.
On Jan. 10, 2024, Martinez posted two pistols for sale and agreed to sell them to a buyer in San Antonio.
On Feb. 28, Martinez was driven by his mother to an agreed-upon location. He unloaded a black rifle case from his mother’s truck. He then placed it in the backseat of the purchaser’s vehicle.
The purchaser then paid Martinez $1,100 in cash for the .308 caliber rifle.
Later in the day Martinez reached out to the purchaser to ask what else they may be interested in buying. Little did he know, the purchaser was an undercover ATF agent.
The agent told Martinez they buy all sorts of weapons but also deal in “cheap throwaways stolen.” Martinez allegedly told the agent “I got you” and that he had AR-style rifles and pistols.
Martinez later told the agent that he purchased “stolen or crime-involved guns” in large batches. He agreed to sell four pistols to the agent for $1,600. In another conversation, the agent told Martinez that he bought weapons for cheap and “will move them to Mexico.”
Between March 5, 2024 to April 11, 2024, the agent met with Martinez three more times, each time his mother driving him.
Each time was a sale of weapons, at least one of which Martinez knew was stolen.
Martinez’s mother, Hernandez Martinez, was sentenced to 40 months in prison for aiding and abetting in April.
Martinez was sentenced to 151 months for firearms trafficking.
