Man sentenced 30 years for zip-tying smoke shop worker while robbing store at gunpoint

The suspect robbed a San Antonio smoke shop of more than $3,000 worth of vape pens, scales and cash.

SAN ANTONIO — After several days of testimony in the 187th District Court, Louis Beltran received a 30-year sentence for his involvement in a 2023 aggravated robbery of a San Antonio smoke shop.

In the fall of 2023, Beltran entered the Sugar Leaf Smoke Shop and held a worker at gunpoint before tying her wrist and ankles with zip-ties while he stole more than $3,000 worth of vape pens, scales and cash.

Beltran was subjected to an enhanced sentence due to his prior criminal history involving weapon violations, unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of controlled substances.

“I am incredibly proud of our team’s work in pursuing justice and accountability, ensuring a habitual offender is now off the streets,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzalez said. “We will continue to fight for the safety of our community.”
