Man sentenced for 2024 murder of girlfriend’s brother, Bexar County DA’s Office says

A man receives a 45-year prison sentence for killing his girlfriend’s brother after a confrontation turned deadly.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man will spend more than four decades behind bars for killing his girlfriend’s brother, according to a press release from the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.

45-year-old Robert Carrasco was sentenced for the 2024 murder of Jason Banda.

According to the D.A., Jason Banda confronted Carrasco over an alleged assault on his sister – who Carrasco was dating at the time. The men started arguing which quickly turned physical. Carrasco then started beating on Banda and killed him in front of his sister.

Officials said before this confrontation Banda had Carrasco arrested on an outstanding motion to revoke probation related to an assault on Banda’s sister.

Initially, Banda’s sister told authorities her brother had been injured during the fight but later told the truth that Carrasco had killed him, according to the press release.

Investigators said the real story of what happened only came out after Carrasco’s mother reported he had facetimed her and his son during the attack – admitting to killing Banda. Based on the mother’s statement the medical examiner conducted additional tests on the evidence.

“No act of retaliation can ever justify the loss of a life,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. “Our office is dedicated to pursuing justice for victims and preventing this kind of violence from taking root in our community.”

Carrasco was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
