A man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for kidnapping and robbing victims in crimes tied to the 2022 killing of Joe Anthony Guerra.
SAN ANTONIO — A man will spend the next 40 years behind bars for his role in a violent crime spree tied to the 2022 murder of a 30-year-old man whose body was later found at a dump site just north of downtown.
Joe Anthony Guerra’s body was discovered along Basse Road in April 2022.
According to court records, Guerra had been selling Xanax with a partner before police say video surfaced showing him alone being tortured and assaulted by two men.
An arrest affidavit states that after the alleged drug deal, the suspects, Esteban Xavier Flores and Paul Chacon, left Guerra’s body at the dump site.
In November 2023, federal agents raided a home near Basse Road and arrested both men.
Flores was initially charged with murder, but online court records show that charge was later dismissed.
Chacon, however, was convicted of aggravated robbery and kidnapping and was sentenced this week to 40 years in prison.
His sentence also stems from a separate violent attack involving Anthony Arozco, who prosecutors say was beaten on video one month before Guerra’s death, then robbed of his clothing and jewelry.
Family members of Guerra have said they continue to seek justice and closure more than three years after his death.
