Man sentenced to 50 years in prison for murder in Atascosa County

Officials say that Morgan was having an outdoor cookout when without warning and no apparent motive, he got a shotgun and shot the victim in the chest.

ATASCOSA COUNTY, Texas — An Atascosa man will spend the next 50 years in prison for a 2021 murder.

Charles Morgan pled guilty to the shooting that happened more than three and a half years ago on September 6, 2021 in Atascosa County.

Officials say that Morgan and his mother were having a cookout with other people who lived on the same property, when without warning, Morgan took out a shotgun and shot Guadalupe Anguiano III in the chest. 

Morgan had just been released from prison one day before the incident and was staying with his mother, Heather Morgan.

Morgan and his mother went on the run, and tried to get to Louisiana. 

Multiple witnesses identified Morgan as the shooter, and both he and his mother were later apprehended by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Morgan’s mother is serving an eight year sentence for her role in trying to flee.
