TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — Tarrant County District Attorney Phil Sorrells announced that Jose Luis Moreno Castaneda, 46, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Evila Yanes.

According to a news release from the Tarrant County DA, on Oct. 30, 2022, Yanes’ body was found face down in a parking lot on North Cooper Street in Arlington at about 4 a.m. Officials said she died from blunt force trauma to the head.

The DA said Yanes, 44, and Castaneda had a long dating history and had been captured on surveillance camera together just hours before her body was found in the parking lot.

According to the Tarrant County DA, Castaneda had a history of domestic violence and was on probation for previously pouring gasoline on Yanes.

The release noted that Castaneda’s DNA was found on several items at the crime scene, including a beer bottle.

“Thanks to the Arlington Police Department for their work on this case and for keeping our community safe,” Sorrells said in an X post.
