Man shot and killed by ATF agent serving a search warrant, federal authorities say

The shooting happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday at the Merida Apartment homes off Northeast Loop 410 near Starcrest Drive.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was shot and killed by agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tabacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) while they were executing a search warrant in San Antonio.

The shooting happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday at the Merida Apartment homes off Northeast Loop 410 near Starcrest Drive. 

An ATF spokesperson said the agents were serving a so-called “knock and announce” federal search warrant that was authorized by the court. They said the man pointed a gun at agents as they were serving the warrant. The man was shot and killed by an agent. 

ATF says the incident is now being investigated by the San Antonio Police Department and local authorities in Texas.

The identity of the suspect has not been released.
