This happened just after 10 p.m. near a car shop on Southwest Military Drive near Pleasanton Road.
The security guard at the car shop told officers they constantly had problems with a man who hung out in a drainage ditch behind the building. Monday night, the man had a friend with him in the drainage ditch, who police say was ready for trouble.
When the security guard confronted the man, police say the friend jumped in and told the guard to leave them alone and reached for what the guard believed to be a weapon.
That’s when the security guard shot him in the chest. The victim was taken to BAMC in critical condition.
Police have detained the security guard and there’s no word yet on whether he’ll be facing charges.
The shooting is under investigation.
