NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — The New Braunfels Police Department has confirmed the death of a 33-year-old man after he was shot and killed by two officers.
Around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, NBPD officers responded to an apartment complex on the 2500 block of West San Antonio Street after receiving reports of a “disturbance” between a male suspect and female victim.
Upon arrival, two officers made contact with both the male and female involved in the alleged disturbance.
While the officers were interacting with the two individuals, the male allegedly “brandished a sharp weapon and began lunging in the officers’ direction,” leading both officers to fire their department issued service weapon.
After striking the suspect, NBPD says the officers attempted life-saving measures but the male died on the scene.
The man was later identified as a 33-year-old man out of Spring, Texas, but authorities are waiting to release his name after his family is notified.
The two officers had a combined experience of four years with NBPD, and have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of concurrent investigations by the New Braunfels Police Department and the Texas Rangers.
