SAN ANTONIO — Editor’s note: The above video is from earlier coverage of this story.
One person has now died after a shooting at an apartment complex on the southeast side of San Antonio, officials said.
The shooting was reported just before 11 a.m. Wednesday at Goliad Road near the intersection with I-37.
Witnesses say they saw a suspicious man in the parking lot looking into cars, armed with a taser and a knife, who was threatening neighbors at the apartment complex. Later it was revealed that he was also seen stealing packages from apartments’ front doors.
That is when apartment management and two maintenance workers confronted the suspect, police say. Police say the suspect attacked those workers, even punching one in the face and pushing him down to the ground. The suspect then started threatening all the neighbors standing outside with a knife and with a taser, according to officers.
Apartment management once again told the man to leave, and that’s when he took off running. Police say a neighbor here chased after that suspect, who then pointed a taser at the resident, and the resident shot him.
The suspect was hit in the stomach and rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police tell us they do not expect the individual who shot him to be facing any charges.
The suspect, a 33-year-old man, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
This is a developing story and further details will be added as they are received.
