Man stabbed in the face on VIA bus in San Antonio during brawl

A bus line brawl between two men ended with stabbing, according to preliminary information from both VIA Metropolitan Transit and the San Antonio Fire Department. Nobody was seriously injured, despite initial, inaccurate reports someone lost a limb.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday morning, June 20, a man boarded a VIA bus at the Randolph Park and Ride looking to start a fight, says a VIA spokesperson. The man initiated a verbal argument with another man on the bus, seemingly unprovoked.

As the confrontation escalated, the man who started the fight was stabbed with a knife, receiving a laceration on his face, according to the VIA spokesperson. Shortly after the fight broke out, a VIA security officer boarded the bus and was able to separate the two men.

The man with the laceration to the face, who is accused of starting the disturbance, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to both the VIA spokesperson and a representative from the San Antonio Fire Department. The other man sustained minor injuries and was arrested by the VIA Transit Police Department for the stabbing.

There was only one other bus rider aboard at the time the fight erupted, and they were not injured in the exchange. Bus routes appear to be back on track and running as usual after the incident early Thursday morning. While some misleading early reports indicated someone may have lost a limb during the fight, the injuries seem to be far less severe.
