Man stabs alleged attacker in self-defense in west-side neighborhood, SAPD says

Police said the suspect was transported by EMS to a local hospital in critical condition.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was stabbed after San Antonio police say he attacked another man on the city’s west side.

Police said officers were dispatched to the corner of N Zarzamora and West Poplar Street on Thursday afternoon for a reported cutting-in-progress.

Upon arrival, police said a man was found cut up, laying on the ground near the scene. He sustained cuts to his stomach, left arm and back, according to officials.

Police said several witnesses told investigators that the man who stabbed him was acting in self-defense. Officials said the victim told officers he was walking with his girlfriend when the suspect attacked him from behind.

That’s when police said a fight broke out between the two and the victim pulled a knife on the alleged attacker. After the cutting, officials said the suspect fled down the street where he collapsed and was discovered by officers.

The suspect was transported by EMS to a local hospital in critical condition and the victim was detained for questioning, according to police.

SAPD said they are investigating this as a case of self-defense. A knife was recovered at the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation.
