Man to spend 30 plus years in prison for murder of woman at northwest-side apartment complex, officials say

The D.A.’s office said Reynaldo Rios received a 38-year sentence for murdering Angelina Hernandez at a San Antonio apartment complex.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is expected to spend more than 30 years in prison for killing a woman at a northwest-side apartment complex back in April 2024, according to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.

A press release states that Reynaldo Rios was sentenced to 38 years for the murder of Angelina Hernandez, who was found shot in the courtyard of the Legacy Flats Apartments on Shaenfield Road on April 18, 2024.

Officials said during a meetup arranged through Instagram, Rios shot Hernandez in front of her apartment complex and fled the scene. In an effort to identify the suspect responsible for Hernandez’s death, authorities asked for the public’s help through Crime Stoppers.

The Crime Stoppers report said that a man in a red hoodie was seen getting out of a blue Dodge Charger and jumping the gate into the apartment complex to meet the victim. Police later said the man in the hoodie was Rios.

According to an arrest affidavit, Rios turned himself into the authorities and told investigators he met with Hernandez because he owed her money and said he acted out of fear during their encounter.

Assistant Criminal District Attorney Neal Cordero of the Criminal Trial Division led the prosecution team with support from Victim Advocate Rachel Garcia and Investigator Anthony Reed.

“Although these sentencings cannot bring back the lives that were lost, they ensure accountability for acts that never should have occurred,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. “Violence is never the answer, and we will continue to fight every day to pursue justice.”
