Man who served as ‘pimp’ for reported runaway arrested for prostituting child, SAPD says

SAPD said the victim, who is a minor, told investigators the suspect in this case was her “pimp.”

SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department has arrested a man who they say served as a “pimp” for a reported runaway while on pronation.

On Feb. 5, detectives with FBI’s San Antonio Human Trafficking Task Force received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the victim in this case.

NCMEC identified the possible sexual exploitation of the victim, who was reported a runaway out of the Fort Worth area. NCMEC also advised the FBI of active online posts on an online escort website that had images of the victim, advertising her services here in the San Antonio area.

Members of the Human Exploitation Unit located the advertisement and were able to make contact with the victim via cell phone messages to set up a date to meet up with her.

Detectives were able to meet up with the victim and rescue her from the situation.

SAPD said the victim told investigators the suspect in this case was her “pimp,” identified as 44-year-old Matthew Hayes.

Detectives were able to make contact with Hayes and collect his cell phone for evidence but even though he had an active misdemeanor warrant, SAPD said they didn’t have enough information to conduct an arrest.

On Feb. 20, FBI conducted an interview with the victim where she allegedly gave specific details on Hayes, giving police enough evidence to conduct an arrest.

The victim reportedly told investigators Hayes was hesitate to meet up in San Antonio due to his probation status.

Hayes was arrested and is facing a charge of trafficking a child-prostitution.

SAPD didn’t give a specific age of the victim but did confirm she is a minor.

Police said there “absolutely” could be more victims and SAPD urges any other possible victims to contact them if they know or have come in contact with Hayes.
