AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Longhorns got back in the win column in a big way on Saturday.
Following a disheartening loss to No. 4 ranked Georgia on the road last weekend, the Longhorns returned home to DKR on Saturday and put away the SEC-worst Arkansas Razorbacks, coming away with a 52-37 win in a high-scoring affair.
Arch Manning was the undoubtedly the star of Saturday’s game, having one of the best performances of his career. Manning finished with 389 yards passing and four touchdowns on 18-of-30 passing. He also finished with a 3-yard rushing touchdown on the opening drive of the third quarter and a receiving touchdown on a 4-yard pass from Parker Livingstone in the second quarter.
Speaking of Livingstone, he continued to be a bright spot for the Longhorn offense. Aside from his touchdown pass to Manning, the redshirt freshman wideout finished with 104 yards and a touchdown on just two receptions. DeAndre Moore was the team’s most productive wideout, finishing with three receptions for 74 yards with all three receptions going for touchdowns. Ryan Wingo led the team in catches, finishing with six.
Quintrevion Wisner led the Longhorns in rushing, finishing with 67 yards on 15 carries. CJ Baxter finished with 24 yards on seven carries.
Defensively, the Longhorns were productive against the pass for most of the game, holding Razorback quarterbacks Taylen Green and KJ Jackson in check and forcing a turnover off each, including junior linebacker Liona Lefau scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter off a strip sack fumble forced by Colin Simmons, but softened late. The Razorbacks did, however, finish with 324 total yards passing, in large part due to them trying to play catch up in the fourth quarter.
The Longhorns also showed some susceptibilities against the run, giving up 188 rushing yards to the Razorbacks. Yardage wise, the Razorbacks slightly outgained the Longhorns overall, finishing with 512 yards of total offense compared to 490 for the Longhorns.
The win puts Texas at 8-3 on the season, with one game remaining in the regular season: a massive Lone Star Showdown against Texas A&M at DKR on Black Friday.
The Aggies remain the only undefeated team in the SEC, sitting at 11-0 on the season and led by Heisman Trophy contender quarterback Marcel Reed. The Longhorns will get a rare chance to play a “spoiler” role in that matchup, as a win over Texas would put the Aggies in the SEC Championship, while a loss would severely implicate their chances.
The Lone Star Showdown airs on KVUE at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 28.
