Man’s generosity towards Washington waitress racks up millions of views

Rick Clark gathered $800 in cash along with $250 in gift cards from community members to surprise a local waitress after she was kind to an overwhelmed mother.

SPOKANE, Wash. — A video of a Spokane man and a local waitress went viral on social media after he raised $800 in cash and $250 in gift cards to surprise the waitress with a holiday act of kindness.

Rick Clark posted a video of his gift to Amber, who works as a server at The Boiler Room in Spokane, on Facebook and TikTok. Clark says in the video that he saw a Facebook post from a local mom who took her children to Boiler Room and expressed gratitude for Amber’s patience with her and her children, one of which was having a “rough day.”

Clark says after reading the mother’s post, he asked his Facebook followers to help him raise money to surprise Amber. Then, Clark took to the streets of Spokane and gathered donations from several community members, most of which were other local mothers who said the story resonated with them and told Clark that Amber’s show of grace was something that should be rewarded.

“It put a lot of light out into the world,” says Clark in the video. “And right now people need that.”

The video has 1 million views on Facebook and over 2 million views on TikTok.

Meet Amber. Amber works at Boiler Room as a server. The other day a mom sat in her section who was having a pretty rough day. One of her kiddos was having a rough day as well and was acting up. The mom was frustrated and embarrassed and just feeling defeated. Amber stepped in and helped the mom by offering her grace and patience in this moment of chaos. The mom made a post on a local FB page and when I read it, I could feel the admiration and appreciation big time. I decided to see if I could gather some money and gift cards to drop off for Amber at her job. Yesterday I spent the day driving all over Spokane gathering cash donations and gift cards. Most were from other moms who this story of kindness resonated with. Moms telling me to give Amber a hug and say thank you for the dignity and respect she gave to a mom in a darker moment. I personally love catching people doing kind things when nobody is watching. So I was very happy to see how we might be able to bless Amber right before Christmas. Here is the video as we were finishing our meal and getting ready to head out. WARNING: You may want to have a tissue handy ❤ This isn’t a post about gift cards and money. This is a post to remind people that GOOD PEOPLE are everywhere in this world. And we are just blessed to know that a server at The Boiler Room is one of them! Merry Christmas Everyone.
