SAN ANTONIO — It’s the most common four-word refrain whenever heavy rain arrives to San Antonio: Turn around, don’t drown.
It’s that sentiment, as well as other messages of preparedness, that city officials are touting as Flood Awareness Week gets underway—appropriately, San Antonio is facing another possibility of heavy downpours on multiple nights in the near future.
“Just six inches of moving water can knock an adult off their feet, and 12 to 18 inches can carry away most vehicles, including SUVs and trucks,” city leaders said in a press release.
Certain stretches of road in the city are more prone to flooding than others when the clouds open up. To provide an idea of which ones drivers should be most wary of, the San Antonio Fire Department shared a list of its top 10 “most dangerous low water crossings,” determined by which ones saw SAFD participating in the most rescues from 2015 to 2025.
The most dangerous for drivers, according to the department: Old Seguin Road at Salado Creek in east San Antonio, where 46 water rescues have been conducted. That’s 15 more than any other area in the city over the last decade.
Here is the full list SAFD came up. Read on or click here to see a map.

San Antonio’s reputation as a flood-prone city reared its head last summer when 13 people died in what was the city’s rainiest day since 2023. Bexar County has since taken measures to implement flood safety infrastructure.
