MAP: Warming centers opening in San Antonio area this weekend ahead of winter storm

Local officials are opening 11 shelters Saturday and keep them operational until Monday for those needing warmth and resources in Bexar County.

SAN ANTONIO — As Bexar County continues preparing for potentially dangerous winter weather to arrive this weekend, including freezing temperatures and frozen precipitation, local officials are urging residents to “Bexar the Cold” together.

Eleven shelters – five operated by Bexar County and six by the City of San Antonio – will open Saturday at 6 a.m. and remain open until noon Monday, offering short-term emergency shelter during the winter storm. Bexar County will be under a Winter Storm Warning from 6 p.m. Saturday until noon Sunday, meaning there’s a potential for ice accumulation and slick roads.

Residents who need shelter are encouraged to bring essential items like their medications, clothing and personal supplies. All locations are accessible and service animals are welcome.
