Sixty-eight men’s and women’s teams will soon have their sights on raising the national championship trophy, but first, they need to make the big dance.

What is Selection Sunday?

The 68-team field for both the men’s and women’s tournaments will be revealed on Selection Sunday, March 15.

Selection Sunday is when the NCAA selection committee announces the 31 automatic bids to the tournament, as well as the 37 at-large bids that are given to teams who are selected based on performance metrics throughout the season.

When will the men’s and women’s brackets be revealed?

CBS will host the men’s selection show on Sunday, March 15, beginning at 6 pm ET.

ESPN will host the women’s selection show on Sunday, March 15, beginning at 8 pm ET.

How many teams participate in March Madness?

There are 68 teams in the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments.

The women’s March Madness field expanded to 68 teams in 2022 following a comprehensive gender equity review commissioned amid backlash on social media over disparities in the men’s and women’s 2021 tournaments, including weight rooms and other facilities.

When do March Madness games start?

The play-in games for the tournament, also known as the First 4, will tip off in Dayton, Ohio, on March 17-18. The official first round of the tournament will take place on March 19-20, with the second round running from March 21-22.
