March Madness | These are the Texas teams that are in the NCAA Tournament, and who they’ll face

Texas is the first Texas team to take the court. They’ll face Xavier in a play-in game on Wednesday.

HOUSTON — The NCAA Tournament brackets were released Sunday afternoon, and there are plenty of Texas teams with a shot at cutting down the nets in San Antonio when it’s all over.

Here’s a rundown of the Texas teams that’ll be dancing starting later this week.   

Midwest region

The Houston Cougars have the No. 1 seed in the Midwest. They’ll open up Thursday at 1 p.m. against Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. That game will be Wichita.

The Texas Longhorns have a shot in the Midwest, too, but first they need to get past Xavier Wednesday at 8:10 p.m. in the No. 11 play-in game in Dayton, Ohio. If Texas wins, they’ll take no the No. 9 seed Illinois. 

South region

Texas A&M is in the tournament as a No. 4 seed. They’ll open up against No. 13 Yale Thursday at 6:25 p.m. in Denver.

West region

It’s a No. 3 seed for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. They’ll take on No. 14 UNCW Thursday at 9:10 p.m. in Wichita.

East region

Baylor is dancing as a No. 9 seed. They’ll open things up against No. 8 Mississippi State.  That game is Friday at 11:15 a.m. in Raleigh.  

Final Four in San Antonio

There’s more Texas flavor in the tournament this year.  The NCAA champs will be crowned in the Alamo City. The Final Four will be played inside the Alamodome on April 5 with the championship on April 7.
