BEAUMONT, Texas — Mary Genevive Bond is back in the Jefferson County Jail after a judge revoked her probation in connection with a 2022 theft and fraud case.
Judge John Stevens confirmed Friday that Bond was taken into custody after prosecutors filed a motion to revoke her probation. The motion was granted in court earlier in the day.
Bond was originally placed on probation for an offense that occurred on May 24, 2022. According to a probable cause affidavit filed that year, Bond was employed by the campaign of Christian “Manuel” Hayes for District 22 until Jan. 31, 2022.
Detective Amber McMichael of the Beaumont Police Department wrote in the affidavit that during April and May of 2022, Bond used the routing and account numbers belonging to Hayes’ political campaign account to transfer $3,834.19 into accounts that benefited her personally. Investigators determined that Bond had no permission or legal right to access the account.
McMichael stated that Bond “unlawfully appropriated funds with the intent to deprive Hayes” and intentionally used unique identifying information from the account “without the owner’s consent with the intent to defraud another.”
Based on the investigation, authorities sought charges of theft and fraudulent use of identifying information, and an arrest warrant was issued in 2022.
With Friday’s ruling, Bond’s probation has now been revoked, sending her back to Jefferson County Corrections where she remains currently.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
