Matt Bonner calls Devin Vassell the Spurs’ X-factor; George Gervin announces San Antonio bottle signing for new vodka

“I think he’s underrated. He’s sneaky and super athletic on both ends of the floor,” said Bonner about Vassell.

SAN ANTONIO — Former San Antonio Spurs forward Matt Bonner was a guest on SiriusXM NBA Radio and shared his opinion on why Devin Vassell is the team’s X-factor heading into the new season if he can remain healthy.

“One of my keys to the Spurs’ success is Devin Vassell,” said Bonner. “I think he’s underrated. He’s sneaky and super athletic on both ends of the floor. He’s just got to stay healthy, stay on the floor,” Bonner said. “When people look at their roster, they forget about him. He’s like a really good player. So I think he gives them a really good third scoring option that can go off and be that X-factor when they need it.”

Last season, he played 64 games and averaged 16.3 points (a drop from the 2023-24 season when he posted 19.5), 4.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in 31.0 minutes played.

But as Bonner said, the 25-year-old will have to remain healthy and play close to an 82-game slate if he is to be effective for the Spurs.

Last season, he dealt with a foot injury that kept him out of the start of the season. Nevertheless, he shot the ball well at 44.3% from the field and 36.8% from the three-point line.
