KERR COUNTY, Texas — Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, the Texas legend who hands out generosity like it’s his day job, is once again rolling into town with a holiday-sized dose of comfort — 600 mattresses’ worth — for families and first responders still recovering from the Fourth of July weekend floods.
The giveaway will take place Saturday, Dec. 13, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until all mattresses are claimed, at the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department at 548 Kelly Street. Residents can expect everything from twin beds to king-size mattresses, all free to those impacted by the summer flooding.
And because Mattress Mack never does anything halfway, Gallery Furniture is also packing toys to hand out to young children and their families, adding a little sparkle to the holiday season.
“Just a few months ago, we were in Central Texas for a mattress giveaway, and we quickly realized how many families are still in need of the most basic comfort: a safe place to sleep,” Mack said. He added that the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department’s willingness to host the event has made it possible for Gallery Furniture to return and continue supporting recovery efforts. “We’re hoping to play a small role in helping communities rebuild and move forward,” he said.
This marks the third mattress giveaway Mack has organized for Central Texas flood victims — another chapter in his long-running tradition of showing up for Texans in times of crisis. His efforts have often become bright spots during difficult chapters for communities across the state.
You will need to bring a driver’s license showing an address in one of the eligible ZIP codes listed on the Gallery Furniture website. First responders should bring a valid ID. Because mattresses must be taken at the time of pickup, residents are encouraged to arrive with a truck, van, or trailer — or help a neighbor who doesn’t have one.
For those who want to give back this holiday season, donations of blankets, toys, and jackets can be dropped off at the Doyle Community Center at 110 Barnett Street in Kerrville, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
For flood victims still rebuilding, Saturday’s event offers more than a mattress. It’s a reminder that even in a tough year, kindness still comes delivered by the truckload.
