SAN ANTONIO — Mayor Ron Nirenberg gave his last State of the City address Tuesday, after serving San Antonio for eight years.
He’s expected to highlight accomplishments made in the last year. Project Marvel and the Missions Ballpark are two initiatives Mayor Nirenberg has been pushing for.
They’re apart of a larger plan to bring everything downtown including a new arena for the San Antonio Spurs and a remodeled Missions stadium.
On Project Marvel, the city, Bexar County and the Spurs signed a memorandum of understanding this month to start conversations on how they can make this change happen.
We talked with Nirenberg in December about his support for Project Marvel and improvements downtown.
“I don’t think just because we have new council members and new mayor, that those visions, those aspirations that the community has had are going to change,” said Mayor Nirenberg. “You know, my hope is that we can combine that aspiration with a willingness to accomplish it in the new council.”
Nirenberg recently told the San Antonio Business Journal that another piece of Project Marvel that needs to be worked on is the Alamodome, coming out of the Final Four.
He’s also expected to touch on the proposed Texas Cyber Command, economic development prospects, and the future of the San Antonio’s workforce development program.
Nirenberg’s last State of the City address is happening at noon at the Grand Hyatt downtown.
