HOUSTON — Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner was presented with an award Sunday from the Houston Texans

The football team nominated the mayor for the 2023 Inspire Change Changemaker Award. The award is given to individuals who “go above and beyond in their pursuit of social justice by helping to transform their communities.”

Turner was presented the award during the halftime game of the Texans vs. Browns game that was played on Christmas Eve.

“It’s one of those special honors that you’ll always remember,” Turner said. “I owe it to so many city employees, directors, volunteers and the city as a whole. It’s changemaker because in this city we just know how to work together to make things happen.”

Turner will be leaving his position at the end of the year due to term limits. He said it has been an honor to serve as Houston’s mayor.

Newly-elected Mayor John Whitmire will officially take office on January 2.
