MCCAYSVILLE, Ga. — McCaysville Police Capt. Brantley Worley continued on to the biggest step in his miraculous recovery on Monday afternoon, as he is set to be released from the hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Tuesday following a surgery to repair a nose fracture.
Worley was critically shot in the face late Friday night while responding for a call for service at a home in McCaysville, which is near the Georgia-Tennessee state line.
The shooting spawned a daylong manhunt with the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Timothy Craig Ramsey, eventually taken into custody.
McCaysville Police Chief Michael Earley provided the wonderful news in a Facebook post on Monday, also saying that he asks the community to rally together behind him and line the streets of Blue Ridge Drive through the City of McCaysville as he is escorted home tomorrow afternoon following his surgery at 1 p.m.
Capt. Worley is hospitalized at Erlanger Baroness in Chattanooga.
He has served with the McCaysville Police Department for years and was promoted to captain this past July. Known by colleagues as a dedicated officer and an ordained minister, Worley is recognized for his commitment both to his department and to the community he protects.
Chief Earley described him as a faithful public servant whose work reflects a deep sense of duty.
Ramsey is facing charges including aggravated assault with intent to murder a police officer.
Capt. Worley was shot late Friday night on King Town Street. Officials have not yet released the circumstances surrounding the call Captain Worley was responding to.
Home security videos and neighbors indicated it happened in an interaction with Ramsey at his home as Worley responded to the call.
