A student allegedly threatened LaCoste Elementary, prompting a swift investigation and increased police presence, though no weapons were found.
SAN ANTONIO — A Medina Valley ISD student is in custody after threatening to shoot up an elementary school in the overnight hours, the district said.
Oscar Vega, the principal for LaCoste Elementary along with the district sent a letter to parents explaining the incident.
According to the letter, the Medina Valley ISD Police Department received a report of a student threatening to shoot up the school. MVISD Police began investigating and worked through the night with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials said no weapons were found and the student is in custody. Out of an abundance of caution, additional police presence will be on campus. The school is expected to operate on a normal schedule.
“We know news like this can be unsettling. Please talk with your children about reporting concerns to a trusted adult and remind them that making threats of any kind can lead to serious disciplinary and legal consequences. Schools investigate every report and work closely with law enforcement to keep students and staff safe,” Vega said in the letter.
Students and parents are encouraged to contact campus administration or MVISD Police if they notice anything suspicious. Anonymous reports may also be submitted through the district website.
