KERR COUNTY, Texas — Mercy Chefs is expanding their reach in the Hill Country.
Ever since floods tore through Kerr County, the organization has provided thousands of meals from City West Church, and they plan to provide thousands more for an extended time through a Kerrville church.
Mercy Chef’s has already provided around a million dollars in aid across Kerr County, now their reach will go even further with a beacon of hope where they can provide over 10,000 meals a day.
“In every plate there’s a miracle, so when someone out there opens that plate, they don’t just see food, they see a miracle,” a volunteer at City West Church in Ingram said.
Families, emergency response teams, and volunteers have already received tens of thousands of meals.
“This community has been so rocked and just, a good meal is such a good sign,” Reverand David Payne said.
New doors are opening, bringing fresh hope and daily miracles at Payne’s Light on the Hill at Mount Wesley in Kerrville.
“That’s what the body of Christ, the church does so much, we’re not worried about denomination, it’s about how we can help,” he added.
Come August, Mercy Chefs ‘A Beacon of Hope Kitchen’ will operate out of their church.
“From there, we’re going to continue cooking meals to serve the county while we build out a sticks and bricks kitchen that will remain here forever,” Gary LeBlanc, co-founder of Mercy Chefs said.
Mercy Chefs in Ingram will continue as a key distribution site through the transition, but this expansion will provide more access to fresh meals and a place to eat, helping them rebuild.
“It’s for the long haul, so as long as it takes, we’re making it up as we go along, but it’s heartwarming to know all the people that are fighting with us, so thank you for that,” Payne said.
