Mexican national charged with trafficking meth after drugs found hidden in auxiliary tank of truck

The liquid meth was extracted and tested positive for methamphetamine.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman from Mexico has been charged with trafficking meth after the illegal drugs were found hidden in a tank on her pickup truck, officials say.

Veronica Sanchez-Pineda, 46, of Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico was stopped at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry on April 20 after Border Patrol agents decided to take a closer look at her vehicle.

The secondary inspection resulted in officials finding a “crystal-like substance inside an auxiliary tank in the bed of the truck.”

The liquid meth was extracted and tested positive for methamphetamine, weighing in at over 1100 pounds.

Sanchez-Pineda also consented to a search of her cell phone, which had a text message about a “job” in Eagle Pass as well as screenshots of money transfers between the defendant and another person.

Sanchez-Pineda allegedly admitted to officials that she was involved in illegal activity regarding what she was transporting in the auxiliary tank and said she was being paid in Mexican Pesos.

A federal grand jury in Del Rio returned an indictment charging her with four counts related to methamphetamine trafficking.

Sanchez-Pineda was arrested and has already made her first court appearance.

If convicted, she faces 10 years to life in prison and up to a $10 million fine.
