Michelle Obama makes surprise visit to Denver bookstore

The former first lady signed copies of her book, “The Light We Carry,” at Tattered Cover.

DENVER — Former first lady Michelle Obama made a surprise visit to a Denver bookstore on Friday.

In a post on X, Obama said she stopped by Tattered Cover to sign copies of her most recent book, “The Light We Carry,” which was published in 2022.

“I’ve enjoyed doing these surprise bookstore visits throughout the year,” her post reads, in part.

A video embedded in Obama’s social media post shows her entering the bookstore’s location on East Colfax Avenue, signing copies of her book and even looking through other titles.

She also reminisces about the last time she visited Tattered Cover in 2018 for her other book, “Becoming.”

“My last visit, when I met these two little girls, Rowyn and Celiste,” Obama says in the video. “If you guys are out there, give me an update, Rowyn and Celiste, on how you guys are doing.”

Additionally, she asks bookstore-goers to let her know if they find the signed copies of her book.

“If anybody goes to the Tattered Cover Book Store and finds them, let us know,” she says. “Let us know that you actually received one of the signed book copies of ‘The Light We Carry.'”

Obama then hints at making future surprise stops at bookstores in other states before signing off.

“Hopefully the next time I talk to you, maybe it’ll be somewhere in the country at a bookstore near you,” she says. “Until then, you guys be good. And remember to vote. Vote, vote. Love you guys. Bye.”
