Mick Foley cutting ties with WWE over Donald Trump’s Rob Reiner comments

The WWE Hall of Famer said Trump’s “incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death” was the “final straw” for him.

WASHINGTON — Professional wrestling legend Mick Foley says he’s cutting ties with WWE over the company’s continued association with President Donald Trump

Foley, who was inducted into World Wrestling Entertainment’s Hall of Fame in 2013, said Trump’s “incredibly cruel comments in the wake of Rob Reiner’s death” were the “final straw” for him.

“I no longer wish to represent a company that coddles a man so seemingly void of compassion as he marches our country towards autocracy,” Foley said in a post on social media Tuesday. “Last night, I informed WWE talent relations that I would not be making any appearances for the company as long as this man remains in office.”

Trump, who was also inducted into the WWE’s Hall of Fame as a celebrity honoree in 2013, claimed – without evidence – that the killing of Hollywood icon Rob Reiner and his wife Michele was due to their politics.

On Monday, police arrested Nick Reiner, the younger of Rob’s two sons, for the murder of his parents. In his social media post, the president did not mention his personal connection to Reiner’s wife, who was a photographer. The original publisher of “The Art of the Deal,” confirmed Monday that Michele Singer took the cover image of Trump’s 1987 bestseller.

Foley said he doesn’t plan to sign a new Legends deal with the company when his current one expires in June.

“I love WWE, will always treasure my time with them, and I am deeply appreciative for all the opportunities they afforded me. But, in the words of Popeye the sailor, ‘I stands all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more,’ Foley added.

This isn’t the first time Foley has spoken out against President Trump. During the lead up to the 2024 election, he went on The Undertaker’s podcast and criticized the then-candidate.

Foley last made a WWE TV appearance in 2023.

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, a.k.a. Paul Levesque, has appeared at a number of White House events since Trump returned to office. Linda McMahon, Levesque’s mother-in-law and former CEO of WWE, is currently the U.S. Secretary of Education.
