Mikaela Shiffrin says she went ‘a bit too far’ with her eyebrow grooming ahead of Winter Olympics event

Eagle-eyed viewers may notice the American ski star is sporting a much edgier look on the slopes in Cortina.

WASHINGTON — Team USA’s Mikaela Shiffrin is set to make her Olympic comeback on Tuesday, competing in the combined team event with partner Breezy Johnson.

Some eagle-eyed fans might spot Shiffrin’s new look at Tuesday’s race: a half-shaven eyebrow.

In a video shared on social media Monday, Shiffrin got candid about taking her eyebrow personal grooming a “little bit too far.” The ski star and three-time Olympian explained how she wanted a slash in her eyebrow, in an effort to embrace a scar in her brow bone, but ended up shaving more than she intended.

“I did a little bit of extra trimming … I went a little bit too far,” she said before adding that there’s a “high likelihood that I’m going to cross the finish line, and I’ll just have, like, half an eyebrow.”

“If you see me in the next few weeks at the Olympics with half an eyebrow, no, you didn’t,” she joked.

Shiffrin, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, also plans to will race in the slalom and giant slalom in Cortina. She entered the Games seeking redemption after the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, where she failed to medal despite competing in six events.

On Tuesday, she will partner up with downhill gold-medalist Breezy Johnson for the women’s team combined event. The discipline consists of one skier racing a downhill run and another racing a slalom run, with the combined times determining the results.

It’s one of several new events at these Winter Olympics.

Shiffrin and Johnson won gold together at last year’s World Championships.

The women’s combined downhill run will begin at 4:30 a.m. ET Tuesday, while the slalom run is set to begin at 8 a.m. ET. Viewers around the world can watch on official broadcasters, including NBC and streaming on Peacock and NBC Olympics platforms.
