Miss Fiesta 2025 sheds light on the hard work and dedication it takes to carry the title

SAN ANTONIO — Kylie Rodriguez holds the title of Miss Fiesta 2025. She’s also studying neuroscience, proving that carrying a prestigious title is much more than pageantry.

Rodriguez believes there are certain qualities that encompass the role of Miss Fiesta. She says being determined and polite are some of them.

“Along with being a spokesperson at Fiesta and going to a bunch of fun events, we’re also expected to be a full-time student and do well in school,” Rodriguez said.

Her journey into neuroscience began when she was a young girl.

“I was in middle school. My grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s and that really kickstarted my interest in neuroscience,” she said.

Over the years, Rodriguez has received mentoring from many – but she has the Fiesta San Antonio Foundation to thank for a $10,000 scholarship.

“I can use that money to make sure I ace the MCAT and get into medical school,” she said.

This year marks 75 years of Miss Fiesta. Chair for Miss Fiesta Mary Wieser, says it takes a lot of dedication to be selected even as a finalist.

“To me it’s just wonderful to see our Miss Fiesta and really the five finalists, how they really improve and develop and bloom during the four months of training that we do for them,” Wieser said.

Over the course of a year, finalists are expected to keep their grades up and speak to various groups – inspiring the next generation.

“Fiesta is all year round,” Wieser said. “Most people think it’s 11 days but it’s not. Not for Miss Fiesta.”

Making a lasting impact is what makes the title worthwhile.

“I love seeing the little girls’ eyes light up when they see the crown,” Rodriguez said. “I can tell they’re shy and they wanna take a picture and they run over to me and it’s just hugs and smiles.”
