Missing Persons Day event to support families set for Feb. 7 in San Antonio

The free event is focused on support, awareness, and connection for families impacted by missing persons, unsolved cases, and related trauma.

SAN ANTONIO — An event focused on support, awareness and connection for families impacted by missing persons, unsolved cases and related trauma is set to take place next weekend on San Antonio’s southeast side.

The third annual Missing Persons Day of Greater San Antonio United will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Brookhill Baptist Church on 631 Utopia Lane.

Organizers say the event is designed to recognize and uplift families who have missing loved ones or relatives who were victims of violence, while also connecting them with vital resources and community support.

“The amazing families who have demonstrated such incredible resilience, determination, love for their missing or deceased loved ones, and their strong desire to find an answer,” said Lori Wittmeyer, Intake coordinator with Search & Support SA.

In addition to honoring families, the event will feature information and resource tables from advocacy organizations, victim services and public safety partners. Guest speakers will address topics including sex trafficking, the collection of DNA samples and fingerprints, and available local and state resources.

Representatives from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and Child Protective Services investigations unit are also expected to participate.

Below is a message from Search & Support San Antonio about the event.

We’re thrilled to share that MSAR Equine Danny, our absolute favorite partner (no hard feelings, we love everyone ), will be on site with South Texas Mounted Search & Rescue during this year’s event.

Danny’s partner, Melissa, will be there and has generously offered to let guests meet Danny, ask questions, take photos, and learn more about how mounted search teams support real search efforts. He’s as kind as he is impressive- and yes, he’s a crowd favorite for a reason.

This is our 3rd Annual community centered event focused on support, awareness, and connection for families impacted by missing persons, unsolved cases, and related trauma.

What to expect at the event:

  • Resource and information tables from advocacy groups, victim services, and public safety partners
  • A family friendly atmosphere with a kids’ activity table
  • Free refreshments and snacks
  • Therapy dogs on site for comfort (and plenty of snuggles)
  • Opportunities to meet genuinely kind people who care
  • Tables hosted by our Search & Support San Antonio Dive Team and Drone Team, sharing how these specialized resources support search efforts
  • Representatives from local, state, and international partner organizations will be present to provide information and resources.

We’re also grateful for the support of CID Army, who will be hosting a fingerprinting activity table for kids and parents.

The event is free and open to the public, including children. More information click here.
