Missing roofer and soon-to-be father of four found dead according to family update

SAN ANTONIO — Update Wednesday, May 15:

Loved ones of a San Antonio roofer who disappeared on Friday, May 10 confirmed he has been found deceased via social media.

The expecting wife of Miguel “Mike” Cansimbe posted the update to Facebook Thursday night. “My sweet husband was found this morning and is deceased. I do not wish to disclose any further information at this point,” she writes. “I want to thank everyone that’s reached out and have shared my posts in an attempt to help get him home where he belongs.”

Jo Rodriguez-Cansimbe also created a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses and support the family during this difficult time.

KENS 5 reached out to authorities for an official confirmation and cause of death but have not heard back.

A San Antonio roofer mysteriously vanished from work on Friday, leaving his pregnant wife worried sick. 

Miguel Cansimbe, 51, was last seen around 3 p.m. on May 10 near Branding Iron and Frontier, according to his loved ones.

Jo Rodriguez-Cansimbe says she spent Mother’s Day weekend searching the Spring Branch neighborhood for her husband.

“I feel strong one moment, and the next I’m just beside myself,” she said. “I’m in tears and it feels unreal.”

Miguel, who sometimes goes by “Mike,” is a soon-to-be father of four.

Jo says her husband planned to door knock in Spring Branch to offer roofing services.

“That morning, he was in the kitchen doing dishes and we were talking,” said Jo. “Just after 7 a.m., we both went downstairs and put the kids in the car. Our last in-person conversation was, ‘I want to spend more time with you.’ He said he is really busy with work, and he did let me know he was going to be home around 7:30 p.m. or 8 p.m. So, not too out of the norm. I dropped one daughter off at day care and kept another one home because she wasn’t feeling well. I talked to him on the phone around 9:30 a.m., he said he had just arrived at his build. He asked how our daughter was feeling, I asked what his plans were and what time he was going to be home. He again said, ‘I am going to be home late.’”

Jo says she had dinner ready for Miguel, but he never came home.

“I tried calling him, texting him,” she said. “I reached out to his coworkers and when they said he didn’t show up for his morning meeting [on Saturday], that’s about the time I decided to file a missing persons’ report. We did drive around all weekend.”

Miguel was last seen in his work vehicle, a white Subaru Forester.

“There’s no cell activity, no card activity,” said Jo. “That’s what really worries me; he hasn’t used his cards at all. I would just think within 72 hours he would have to stop for food or gas or something.”

She fears something bad may have happened.

“I don’t think it’s a dangerous area,” said Jo, “but if someone encountered him, I would just hope that they would come forward. We had already talked about Mother’s Day plans, we have our daughter’s surgery tomorrow. He did take the day off [for our daughter’s surgery]; he wouldn’t miss something like that.”

Jo is now asking the community to share Miguel’s photo and to keep an eye out for him.

“What I’m really holding onto right now is just that someone will see something and bring him home,” she said.
