SAN ANTONIO — In Dec. 22’s edition of “Mondays with the Mayor,” Gina Ortiz Jones explained how much the city is expected to grow over the next 25 years and what San Antonio needs as the search for the person to head up Project Marvel has begun.

In regards to the reports of the city planning to hire a staffer for the development of Project Marvel, Jones shared that it isn’t uncommon to have a “senior person” to look over this massive of a project and what she thinks is most important for them to focus on heading into it.

“What I think is more important is that we take a step back and really think about the strategic opportunity before us to rethink our revitalized downtown,” Jones said. “We’ve got to make sure hey, lets have a good idea. How much housing do we want down there? How much walkability? How much greenspace? Those are the things we need to be thinking about. So it’s not just managing the project, but we’ve got to make sure these are the things that we want as we think about our downtown.”

In the midst of Jones talking about the City’s search for the head of Project Marvel, she gave an eye opening statistic when it came to how much San Antonio is expected to grow over the next 25 years with the billions of public money being invested into the new arena, infrastructure around it and baseball stadium who’s term sheet is still non-binding.

“We know growth is coming,” said the Mayor. “We’re going to see a city the size of Austin join our community by 2050.”
