Monster Jam stays the course for Alamodome show despite threat of winter weather

Organizers say they will “comply with all city and state emergency directives” as San Antonio braces for freezing conditions.

SAN ANTONIO — While attractions like the San Antonio Zoo and SeaWorld are closing during potentially hazardous winter weather this weekend, one major event is roaring to life at the Alamodome as scheduled.

Organizers of this weekend’s Monster Jam say the two-day event is “proceeding as scheduled,” and the venue on Friday afternoon shared information for those who plan to venture downtown.

“Monster Jam will continue to comply with all city and state emergency directives,” Feld Entertainment said in a statement. “Should a state of emergency be declared, we will provide updates through our social media channels and website.”

Separate Winter Storm Warnings are expected to go into effect Saturday for Bexar County, the Hill Country and surrounding communities. Freezing temperatures are expected in South-Central Texas, as well as the possibility of freezing rain and ice accumulation on roadways.

Governor Greg Abbott on Friday issued a disaster declaration for 134 Texas counties largely in the Panhandle and northern regions of the state, which are expected to be hardest-hit by the storm.

Bexar and nearby counties are not included, but many school districts are nonetheless taking precautions by canceling weekend events. The Alamo is also delaying opening until noon on Sunday and Monday, and the Pearl is canceling its weekend market.

Monster Jam is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Saturday, soon after a Winter Storm Warning goes into effect for Bexar County. Drivers are encouraged to give themselves plenty of time to navigate downtown and find a parking spot; VIA is also providing Park & Ride service for $1.30 each way to the Alamodome from its locations at the Brooks Transit Center (3026 Sidney Brooks Drive) and Crossroads Park & Ride (151 Crossroads Blvd.).

Feld Entertainment says anyone “concerned with traveling from other parts of the state” to get to the San Antonio event should contact their customer support team.
