Four weeks after the Christmas Eve crash, crews continue their search for 8-year-old Clara Robinson
SHERMAN, Texas — The search continues for an 8-year-old girl who went missing after a crash on Christmas Eve in Sherman.
Clara Robinson went missing after her family got into a crash near U.S. 75 while driving from their home in Oklahoma to McKinney, Texas. Her father, Will Robinson, died in the crash, while Clara went missing after their family’s vehicle got trapped in high water in a drainage ditch. Clara Robinson’s mother and three siblings were rescued and survived the incident.
Sherman police and other law enforcement agencies previously led the search efforts. For weeks, crews searched for Clara, delayed only by harsh winter weather that moved through the area.
On Jan. 14, Texas EquuSearch (TXEQ), a nonprofit dedicated to search and recovery efforts for families free of charge, took over the search operations.
TXEQ said they will use foot searchers, excavators, drones, K9s, kayaks with sonar, helicopters and ATVs to continue their efforts to find Clara. Starting Thursday, TXEQ said they will ask landowners for access to their properties to broaden their search.
If Clara is not located by Sunday, TXEQ said they will deploy a dive team from Feb. 1 through Feb. 4 to search nearby waterways.
“Our hearts are with Clara Robinson’s family, friends, teachers, classmates, community and all who know and love her during this incredibly difficult time,” the organization said in a statement. “We remain committed to leaving no stone unturned.”
