BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — IMPACT DAYS: Tuesday, Aug. 19, Wednesday Aug. 20, Thursday, Aug. 21
Reason: Heavy rain, localized flooding and gusty winds possible in areas of the San Antonio region.
The breakdown
Strong storms pummeled South Texas communities Tuesday afternoon—including San Antonio’s northwest side, which saw frequent lightning and brief downpours along with strong winds during the evening commute.
CPS Energy is now working to restore power to more than 12,500 households and businesses. Click here to see the outage map.
There is a marginal risk for continued excessive rain as the week continues, a weather development that is dampening the Alamo City amid the hottest time of the year.
A slow-moving front returning Wednesday will bring daily chances for storms with the potential for locally heavy rain over our area. Slow-moving storms and heavy downpours could lead to isolated flash flooding, so keep an eye on the forecast as well as possible road closures.
Highs will be near or slightly above average over the next couple of weeks, but heat index values should stay near 100 to 103 degrees, below Heat Advisory criteria.
